First-class bass: Bassmaster’s Top 10 Best Bass Lakes for 2016

It’s finally here: Bassmaster Magazine’s much-anticipated Best Bass Lakes for 2016!

This list is widely accepted as the ultimate guide to identifying the various bass fishing meccas across the United States.

In previous years, Bassmaster has published an extensive 100-lake fishing report. This year, they’re trying something new. Their top 10 list was followed by the 25 best bass-fishing lakes in each region of the United States (SoutheastWestCentral and Northeast). So, depending on where you want to fish, be sure to check those out — for now, though, let’s focus on the top 10 overall best bass fishing lakes across the country.

Drumroll, please…

10. Lake St. Clair, Michigan

9. Falcon Lake, Texas

8. Rodman Reservoir, Florida

6. Mille Lacs Lake, Minnesota 7. Lake Berryessa, California

5. Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta, California

4. Lake Erie, New York

3. Clear Lake, California

2. Santee Cooper Lakes, Marion and Moultrie, South Carolina

1. Toledo Bend Reservoir, Louisiana/Texas

The rankings were compiled using information from state fisheries departments and recent catch data from several tournament organizations, as well as input from the B.A.S.S. Nation directors, Elite Series fishing professionals, the B.A.S.S. Council, and Facebook users.

While many of these lakes are ideal for skilled anglers and professionals, they’re also fantastic spots to take the kids on a summer weekend. There is guaranteed to be fish and fun aplenty at any of these lakes — it’s not in the top 10 for nothin’! Even if the fish won’t bite, remember: If you were reeling in fish after fish all day long, it’d be called “catching” not “fishing.”
